My SA | San Antonio’s first-ever vegan and mocktail bar is opening soon; taking over South Flores Folklores Coffee House

The organizers behind the popular event, Michelada Madness, are bringing something new to the San Antonio community: the city's first-ever dry, non-alcoholic bar and vegan eatery.

Owner Rogelio Sanchez told mySA.com he and his brother Michael are taking over the original Folklores Coffee House location, at 5009 S. Flores St., to open their new restaurant, named HASH, which means Heal And Spread Healing, by the end of September.

Being born and raised on the South Side, Sanchez said both he and his brother wanted to offer a sober and healthy choice to a community that is surrounded by bars and fast food joints. After traveling and going through their own journey to recovery, the Sanchez brothers have been sober for seven years. The two have also been vegan for six years.

"We focus on that mindset of fitness, eating right, mindfulness, and spiritual healing," Sanchez said. "We are very passionate about bringing that to communities of color ... like the Hispanic community has had an issue with alcohol abuse and bad diet for many years, and we want to bring that non-alcoholic option to not only them but to everyone who is receptive to it."

HASH will center its food menu around Vegan brinner (breakfast and dinner) options, serving dishes such as chicken and waffles, breakfast wraps and loaded hashbrowns.

Sanchez said the dishes will be aesthetically pleasing as well as fulfilling.

On its drink menu, Sanchez said there will be CBD-infused mocktails and a wide variety of craft non-alcoholic beers from several brands such as Athletic Brewing Company, Heineken, and Budweiser.

Sanchez said HASH will be the first full-service dry bar in San Antonio. He added HASH will also offer coffee, tea, and Topo Chico.

On Saturdays and Sundays, Sanchez said there will also be a DJ on-site for brunch.

HASH will have its soft opening on Sept. 14 and will have its grand opening at a later date.

Sanchez said everyone is invited to the soft opening, adding that they look forward to bringing this new concept to the community and the South Side.

"This concept is not only needed but it's also anticipated because the feedback we've had online has been huge. Not only from the sober community, but from everyone really," Sanchez said.
